Activities and Athletics

The objective of Westwood activities and athletics is to promote equal participation, teamwork, skill development and good sportsmanship with the intent of engaging students in life-long participation in activities and representing Spring Lake Park Schools in a positive manner.

Westwood, in partnership with Spring Lake Park Schools Community Education, offers a variety of extended-day programming opportunities for students in grades 5-8. Click through the tabs below for current offerings.

Westwood offers a variety of clubs, community services, gifted services and performing groups. Contact the advisors below for additional information or call Westwood at 763-600-5300.

Athletics/Intramurals

Middle School Athletics:

    • Track - 7/8 will join the high school team

A current sports physical is required for participation in all middle school and high school sports. Physicals are good for three years. Forms are available in the Westwood office or can be can be downloaded here.

Intramural Sports:

Intramurals are athletics led by a middle school coach that are open to all Westwood students. 7/8 will start at 2:45 p.m. 5/6 will join at 3:15 p.m. when their school day is over. The focus will be fundamentals, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

SLPHS Athletics

The following Spring Lake Park High School sports allow students in grades 7-8 to participate. 

  • Fall sports: cross country (boys and girls), dance team, soccer (boys and girls), girls swimming and diving and girls tennis 
  • Winter sports: girls basketball, dance team, girls gymnastics, girls hockey, nordic skiing and boys swimming and diving 
  • Spring sports: golf (boys and girls), softball, track and field, and boys tennis

Westwood Drop-In

Westwood Drop-In Center

What: A no-cost after-school option for all Westwood students. Students can work on homework and get help from the supervisor. Activities, such as Ping Pong, chess, and LEGO Mindstorm sets will be available.

Where: Westwood Cafeteria

  • Wednesdays - Sports Fitness Academy - Led by Cam Krugerud from Pursuit Fitness
    • 7/8: 2:30-3:10 pm
    • 5/6: 3:15-3:50 pm

Activity Buses

Activity buses are provided for students who are staying after school for extra help in classes and for extracurricular activities. Activity buses run daily and are free to all students. No registration is required.
