The submissions are in, and 19 Spring Lake Park Schools educators have been nominated for the 2018-2019 SLP Teachers United, Teachers of the Year award. These nominees were recognized by students, colleagues or community members as a dedicated and inspiring educator who are making a different in SLP Schools.
Nominees include:
- Park Terrace Elementary: Susan Byl, fourth grade teacher and Jenny Zimmermann, academic specialist
- Woodcrest Spanish Immersion: Sarah Scheller, academic specialist and Laura Johnston, third grade teacher, Jessica Kolz, academic specialist and Lina Mraz, kindergarten teacher
- Centerview Elementary: Elizabeth Hultgren, third grade teacher and Alyssa Sawinski, fourth grade teacher
- Westwood Middle/Intermediate: Christopher Clark, social studies teacher and Alyssa Olson fifth grade teacher
- Spring Lake Park High School: Nora Tycast, band teacher; Mary Mohr-Scinocca, English teacher; Daniel Buck, German teacher; Lori Henry, family and consumer science teacher; Shelly Johnson, art teacher; Maria Ahrndt, art teacher; Matthew Meier, social studies teacher; Mike Miller, Spanish teacher; and Amy Brockman, social studies teacher
In order to be nominated, educators had to meet the following criteria:
- Early education and elementary nominees must teach early education through fifth grade
- Secondary nominees must teach sixth-12th grade
- Both early education/elementary and secondary nominees must hold at least a baccalaureate degree and a teaching license issued by the state of Minnesota
- Nominees must have completed at least three full years of teaching (including the current year), be a member of Spring Lake Park Teachers United (SLPTU) and intend to teach for two more school years
- Counselors and special education case managers are also eligible.
The two winners will be announced and awarded during the end-of-the-year SLPTU party in May.
