Leadership transitions 2023 Judi, Tyler, Steve, Angie

As one school year wraps up, preparation is well underway for next year. Four leaders are making moves effective July 1.

Judi Kahoun, long-time Northpoint elementary principal, shared with the Northpoint community in early May her intention to transition into retirement. She is stepping away from the principal role as the year ends.

“I have been blessed to work at Northpoint for the past nine years,” says Judi. “It is a wonderful learning community, and I will truly miss students, staff and families. It has been an honor and a pleasure.”

Next year, Judi will be working on some specific projects with districtwide impact.

“I’ve had the honor to work with Judi for 26 years. She is an immensely skilled and passionate educator and strong and caring leader. I celebrate with her as she begins her path toward retirement,” says Jeff Ronneberg, superintendent. “I’m thrilled she will continue to apply her expertise within our school community.”

Tyler Nelson, associate principal at Westwood Intermediate and Middle School, will become Northpoint’s new principal. Tyler began his Spring Lake Park Schools career at Northpoint 11 years ago. For the last eight years at Westwood, he’s focused his leadership on grades 5 and 6.

“Not only is Tyler great with kids, he is also highly supportive of teachers and is an extremely capable, visible, and caring leader,” says Jeff. “Tyler is well-equipped to seamlessly step in and lead the Northpoint team.”

Tyler will be spending some time at Northpoint during these last weeks of school as he starts to get to know students, families and staff.

“I’m extremely excited to continue my leadership work in the district and be able to do itat the elementary school where I started,” says Tyler. “I’m looking forward to partnering with the staff, students and families at Northpoint and continue to build relationships.”

Steve Brady will be transitioning to the associate principal role at Westwood focused on grades 5 and 6. Steve has been associate principal at Spring Lake Park High School for 13 years.

“Steve has done a great job at the high school,” says Jeff. “I’m thrilled to have a person with Steve’s experience and expertise joining Principal Tom Larson at Westwood.”

Steve began his career as a beloved elementary teacher.

“I’m looking forward to returning to work with this age group,” says Steve.

Angie Shea has requested to return to her role as high school counselor after spending two years as associate principal at Westwood focused on grades 7 and 8. Principal Matthew Boucher and the high school team look forward to welcoming her back.

“I’ve enjoyed my time and learned a lot at Westwood, but I’m excited to return to the high school to continue work at the student and family level,” says Angie. “I feel fortunate to have staff and student connections at both buildings and have more knowledge of the 5th through 12th grade experience.”

With these transitions, there will be two open associate principal roles – one at Westwood Middle School and one at Spring Lake Park High School.

“These will be highly sought-after positions,” says Jeff. “We will be working to fill them early this summer. We will communicate the outcomes of those searches as the 2023-2024 school year begins.”
