• Spring Lake Park Schools offers kindergarten programs at all of our K-4 elementary schools, Centerview, Northpoint and Park Terrace.
• Each kindergarten student begins their journey to college-readiness with the following core academic disciplines: reading, math, science and social studies.
• Students have experiences in music, art, STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), and physical education.
• Highly-skilled Kindergarten teachers provide a caring environment that meets the needs of each child.
• Classroom instruction and activities are structured for the unique needs of young learners.
• Class sizes are approximately 22 students.

Locations: Centerview Elementary School in Blaine, Northpoint Elementary in Blaine and Park Terrace Elementary in Spring Lake Park

Hours: Follows the same school schedule as the school day, currently 9:20 a.m.-3:55 p.m. (subject to change)

Transportation: Students eligible for transportation would ride the regular morning and afternoon school buses

Enrollment: Enrollment must be submitted by February each year to ensure priority placement, as space is limited for open-enrolled and intra-district transfer students. If you missed this deadline, please contact us to learn more.

Please note, families must formally enroll in Woodcrest as it is not a designated neighborhood school.

• Spring Lake Park Schools offers a Spanish immersion program that begins in kindergarten at Woodcrest Spanish Immersion School (WSI).
• Students at WSI follow the same curriculum offered at the other SLP elementary schools, except all core content is taught in Spanish.
• Students learn to understand, speak, read, and write in Spanish, increasing fluency levels each year they are in the program. By the end of fifth grade, most students will be functionally proficient in writing, reading and speaking in Spanish. 
• Students begin formal English instruction in grade three. Data from Minnesota’s comprehensive reading and math tests continue to show immersion students are performing at an equal or higher level than their district peers on these assessments. 
• Students experience a wide variety of world views as they are immersed in a school culture created by international teachers and support staff.

Location: Woodcrest Elementary Spanish Immersion School in Fridley

Hours: Follows the same school schedule as the school day, currently 9:10 a.m.-3:45 p.m. (subject to change)

Transportation: Students eligible for transportation would ride the regular morning and afternoon school buses

Enrollment: While we accept enrollments throughout the year, the enrollment priority placement deadline will be in February of each year.

A lottery will take place if there are more applicants than spots available. Completing enrollment by February of the current year will guarantee a placement in the lottery. If you miss the deadline for the current school year, please contact us to learn more.

If you have a student(s) enrolled in the Spring Lake Park Schools district, your household is already set up in our Campus Parent Portal information system and we just need you to add your incoming kindergarten student. 

Here are the steps in enroll your incoming kindergartener:

1. Login to Campus Parent portal
2. On the left side bar, click on "More"
3. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and click "Online Registration"
4. Click "New Student Registration"
5. Next, check that the registration year is the correct year you want your child enrolled in. Options are enrollment for the current school year or enrollment for next school year.
6. Click "Begin Registration"
7. You will be asked to update guardian and household information before registering new student. The system will walk you through the process. 
8. Once you click submit, you will receive a confirmation email with the documents you need to bring in to the District Services Center (DSC) located at 1415 81st Avenue NE, Spring Lake Park. The DSC is open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Reminders

• Register and complete Early Childhood Screening if you haven’t done so already. (Screening is required by law.) Learn more about screening.

• At your child’s 5-year-old checkup with their doctor, ensure that immunizations are up-to-date. (Immunizations are required by law and no student will be able to start on the first day without having these completed.)

Language Arts

Kindergarten students learn to communicate through listening, speaking, reading, writing and thinking. While learning to read independently, kindergarteners continue to build language and comprehension through listening to high-quality literature and informational text. Students collaborate and converse with each other to share ideas and gain other perspectives. Kindergarteners use a combination of drawing, dictating and writing to compose narrative and informative texts.

Social Studies

Kindergarten students learn about themselves in relation to their school, families and community. Students demonstrate skills that reflect an understanding of civic values, explore the impact of consequences on themselves and their community, and discover similarities and differences amongst people.

Math

Kindergarten students learn essential math skills as they count, compare, write and represent numbers. Students will begin to compare objects through measurements, collect and organize data, and describe and name shapes.

Science

Kindergarten students learn about plants, animals, seasonal changes and characteristics of living and non-living things. Students will learn to observe, sort, compare and describe the world around them.

Health

Kindergarten students learn how behaviors impact personal health and how to stay safe at home, school and in the community. Students will focus on fire safety, when and how to call 911, and how to express emotions in a healthy manner.

Kindergarten Specialist 

Kindergarten students will spend 45 minutes each day with a kindergarten specialist to focus on developing communication skills, teamwork strategies and personal responsibility. Students will have the opportunity to apply these strategies and skills through choice and STEM activities, all while building social and cultural proficiency. Students will be engaged daily through movement, music and art.

By ruling of the School Board, children are eligible to enroll in kindergarten if they are five years old on or before September 1 for the upcoming school year. Parents of children with birthdays between September 2-November 1 may apply for early entrance to Kindergarten.

Families must apply for early entrance and students must demonstrate they are ready to start Kindergarten early. The first step is to download, read and submit the Early Entrance to Kindergarten Guide and Application. Email the completed application to our enrollment team.

Yes. Since 2012, each student in grades K-12 at Spring Lake Park Schools has been issued their own school-owned technology device (mostly iPads) as another way to assist in personalizing learning for each student.

All students in Spring Lake Park Schools must comply with Minnesota Immunization Laws. All immunizations need to be up-to-date prior to the start of the school year. Following Minnesota law all children must be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, mumps, and rubella before they can start school. At your child's 5-year-old checkup with their doctor, ensure that immunizations are up-to-date. Visit the Health Services page to learn more.

All in-district students are eligible for transportation to and from school. Our regular education transportation contractor is Lorenz Bus Service, and special education is Voigt’s Bus Service. Visit the transportation webpage to learn more.

Class rosters are developed in late August and communicated with families about one week before school begins. There will be an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and visit their classroom before the beginning of school.

If your child is able to attend the free Kinder Camp in August, their experience at camp will help teachers get to know them. This is helpful for developing class lists and teacher assignments.

Yes. In Minnesota, all children must be screened before being enrolled in public school. This service is offered at no cost to all families who live in the Spring Lake Park Schools district. If you are planning to send your child to private school or to home school, the law does not require the screening. However, we still encourage you to participate.

This is a wonderful opportunity for you to find out how your child is developing and for you to find out more about resources and programs in our community.

Children may be screened between the ages of 3.5 and 5. The ideal age for screening is near your child’s fourth birthday.
