Discovery Days Preschool
What year did you start working in Spring Lake Park Schools?
Why did you choose to join Spring Lake Park Schools?
I came to Spring Lake Park schools because of our shared commitment for excellence with high expectations for all. SLP is on a mission to continuously improve and create an educational experience that prepares students to design, problem-solve, and collaborate. I love that! Working in SLP is more than a job to me—I feel inspired and supported as I continue to learn and grow professionally. I am thankful to be a part of the SLP team!
What's the best part of your day, as an employee of Spring Lake Park Schools?
There are so many…it's hard to choose! I love singing and dancing with my students during our morning meeting when we start the day by reminding each other how special each person is to our class. I like getting messy with my students which sometimes includes painting with our feet or making our own dinosaur fossils. Probably my MOST favorite part of each day is when everyone is engaged in learning centers and a student comes running up to me with an idea for a new activity saying, "I wonder what would happen if…". We add these ideas to our "inquiry parking lot" and I LOVE that even a 4-year-old can have a voice in their learning.
What do you do when you're not at work?
I enjoy all outdoor activities, roller coasters, and trampolines. I especially like to run, walk, swim, play tennis, ski, ice skate, and go camping with my family and friends. I try to learn something new everyday. I also teach Sunday school and swimming lessons.
How do you personalize learning for your students?
My students and I share our ideas and create new learning centers together. I learn a lot from listening to their ideas and often hear myself saying, "Wow, that's a neat idea and I would never have thought of doing it that way!" Each of my students is an expert at something…one knows everything there is to know about bowling, another loves to plan parties, and another likes to make movies using an iPad…and the list goes on. When we look at the strengths everyone brings, our classroom becomes a really exciting place where everyone is valued and has a voice.
What makes you #SLPPantherProud?
I am #SLPPantherProud each day as I see my students practice empathy and help each other. I'm also #SLPPantherProud as I see my students realize that they ARE artists, scientists, readers, writers, inventors, and most importantly they are friends.
