What year did you start working in Spring Lake Park Schools?
Why did you choose to join Spring Lake Park Schools?
I joined Spring Lake Park Schools because of their vision for the future and continued work toward being innovative. Having started working in SLP with the Learning Ventures Child Care Program, I loved seeing how all aspects of our district share that same vision and innovative mentality. I also liked that SLP has 1:1 iPads for our students and am absolutely thrilled that we have partnered with Flipgrid!
What's the best part of your day, as an employee of Spring Lake Park Schools?
The best part of my day is when the doors open in the morning and the students come running in! Having to tell a child to slow down and not run to their classroom is SOO hard. It's great to see that these kids are so excited to be here each day and that they want to get to their class as quick as they can!
What do you do when you're not at work?
When I am not at work I am spending time with family, camping, watching or playing sports, managing my fantasy football leagues, or playing Legos with my son. We have a room in our basement dedicated to Legos and our Lego city, so we tend to do that quite a bit.
How do you personalize learning for your students?
I personalize learning for students by getting to know each student and their interests. When we plan lessons around the things that interest them and their learning styles, you can get students to buy into almost any learning target you need them to learn. When they know the why behind their learning and how they can apply it to their life, that helps too!
What makes you #SLPPantherProud?
I am #SLPPantherProud because I love the Fail Forward mentality that our district pushes. I constantly see teachers and students trying new things because they're not afraid of failure. We continue to learn from our failures and grow. When you have a such a large group of co-workers that support you and the new things you'd like to try, it's truly a remarkable thing!
