Dates and deadlines:

November 28, 2018  - Packets will arrive and be delivered to Senior Advisories.

December 7 and 17, 2018 -  Collection of Packets will be during 4th hour (lunch) in the cafeteria.

January 31, 2019 - A $5 late fee will be applied on any orders after February 1, 2019

February 28, 2019 - An additional $5 (total of $10) late fee will be applied on any orders after March 1, 2019

April 30, 2019 - An additional $10 late fee and an additional $10 for shipping (total of $20) will be applied after May 1, and the arrival date is not guaranteed.

May 14, 2019  - Cap and Gown distribution will be during 4th hour (lunch). After May 14, 2019 cap and gowns will be located in the Main Office for pick up.

May 22, 2019 - Awards Night - FAC - 7 p.m.

May 20, 2019 - Cords and Tassels go on sale - Main office - during Advisory/SLP time

When and where is the commencement ceremony?

The 2019 commencement ceremony will take place on Friday, June 7 at 7:15 p.m.

Graduation 2019 will be held on site.  Panther Stadium, 1100 81^st Ave. NE, Spring Lake Park, MN  55432,

• If weather is nice – outside in Panther Stadium
• If weather is bad – inside in the Panther Gym

Ceremony begins at 7:15 p.m.  Graduates line up at 6:30 p.m.

When do we rehearse?

Rehearsal will be held May 31, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. in the Panther Gym.  

When does my senior return their iPad?

On June 6th, all seniors are to report to the FAC at 8:10 a.m. for a final graduation walkthrough/senior meeting.  Upon completion of the graduation walkthrough seniors will turn in their iPads.  Upon completion of the iPad turn in, seniors will be released from Spring Lake Park High School to complete two electronic end of year surveys that they may complete independently.

Who is eligible to participate?

All those seniors who meet the district requirements.  If you have questions, please contact Student Services at 763-600-5130.

What if there is bad weather?

In the event that the ceremony is held indoors, seating in the Panther Gym will be limited.  Only guest with tickets will be admitted.  Overflow seating will be available in the Fine Arts Center.  A final decision on the location of the ceremony, indoors or outdoors will be made by 12 p.m. on June 7.  Please call the Commencement Hotline at 763-600-5990 anytime after 12 p.m. on June 7. Or visit the High School Graduation website, for information on the ceremony location.

Tickets will be issued to graduates at rehearsal on Friday morning May 31.  Each Graduate will receive 4 tickets (2 for the Panther Gym and 2 for the FAC, and will only be necessary if graduation is indoors).  Every person (adult, child or baby) must have a ticket to enter the Panther gymnasium. Tickets will be give out at graduation practice on May 31.  Lost tickets will not be replaced.

When will I receive my tickets?

Tickets will be give out at graduation practice on May 31, 2019.

Where do my guest park?

Parking is available onsite in the front parking lots off 81^st Ave. or the Able Street lot.  Street parking is also available.

What do graduates wear? 

Graduates will wear Herff Jones Cap and Gown.

Where do I get my honors tassel and cord?

Honor tassels and cords will go on sale in the main office on May 22, 2019.  Gold tassel is $5 and Gold Cord is $10.  White NHS cords can be purchased through the NHS advisor.

How do I pay any outstanding fees?

Potential graduates will start receiving fee statements during Advisory in May.  All fees can be paid at the front office desk and prior to graduation practice on May 31.  Students may acquire additional fees before the end of the year.  Financial obligations may include technology, lost or damaged text books, non-returned library books, non-athletic student activity fees, unreturned sports equipment, class lab fees and other items.  All obligations should be settled before the day of graduation.

Note:  If you have a NSF/Returned Check on your statement the school will only take a cashiers check or cash.

What time will the doors open?

Gates and doors (if inside) will open at 6:30 p.m.

Balloon bouquets

Please leave balloon bouquets at home, balloon bouquets obstruct the view of others. If any guests arrive with a balloon bouquet, they will be asked to leave it in a designated holding area during the ceremony. The school will not be responsible for the loss of these items.

Will I receive my diploma at the commencement ceremony? 

No, diplomas will be sent out at the end of June once grades have been finalized and placed on the final transcript.

Will photos be taken of the students during the ceremony?

Lifetouch will be taking photos of each graduate as they pass over the stage.  See the Graduation website for more information.

Where do I meet to line-up for the ceremony?

Line-up will take place at 6:30 p.m. on June 7 in the Auxiliary Gym.  Don’t be late!

What if my guest has limited mobility or special needs?

If you have a need for handicapped seating (wheel chair) please contact Maria Norman at 763-600-5102.    

Will the ceremony be shown on the internet?

We will have Live Streaming; see the District website.

Graduation is fast approaching for our students. SLPHS has a tradition of offering graduating seniors the opportunity to attend the Senior All-Night Party immediately following graduation. The best line of defense against underage drinking and driving and alcohol-related accidents around graduation time is to provide a safe, fun, and of course, chemical-free environment. We are proud to say that typically 85% of the Senior Class participates in this event.

The 2019 Senior All-Night Party will be at Bowlero providing students with unlimited bowling, laser tag, arcade games, pasta/pizza/wings buffet and breakfast buffet, as well as SANP favorites: casino, salon, massage, henna tattoos, boxer bingo, and a hilarious hypnotist performance. There are many exciting things to do in this festive, music-filled, party atmosphere.

On Friday, June 7, 2019, registration check -in will take place immediately following commencement – about 8:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at SPRING LAKE PARK HIGH SCHOOL (students may not drive themselves or be dropped off at Bowlero – they must be bused from the high school). Students will be bused from the High School to Bowlero by approximately 10:00 p.m. and then bused back from Bowlero to the high school starting around 4:30 a.m. The lock-in hours are from 10:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.

Registration Fees - Extended Deadline         

Register by May 17: $85
Register after May 17: $100

We understand that this a big expense for some students. The cost is $85 if the student registers by May 11, 2019. Late registrations (after May10) require a lot of extra effort by the volunteer committee, so the cost increases to $100. We can accommodate a few graduation day sign-ups, so to guarantee your student a spot AND save money, register by May 10, 2019.

T-Shirts: You must register by 5/10/19 to reserve your size for the 2019 SANP t-shirt. T-shirt must be worn by every student the night of the party, and they will receive them at registration.

Scholarships - We want every student to be able to attend. If payment is an issue, please have student speak with their counselor – scholarship funds or payment plan may be available.

2019 Spring Lake Park High School Commencement Guidelines

Commencement Philosophy

It is the philosophy of Spring Lake Park High School that commencement is designed to honor graduates with activities that are dignified. Graduates and their guests are politely asked to refrain from any action that would disrupt the atmosphere of these ceremonies. With the cooperation of those attending commencement, everyone will experience a positive, memorable event. Participation in commencement is voluntary – if a student chooses not to participate he/she must inform the school.  Attendance at commencement rehearsal is required of those participating in the ceremony.
 

Academic Standards for Participation in Commencement

1. Only those seniors who have met academic requirements for graduation will be permitted to participate in commencement ceremonies.
2. The deadline for submitting course work to teachers in order to earn credit is

• On-Line Courses – June 5, 2019
• High School – June 5, 2019 at 2:55 p.m.
• Metro Heights – May 31, 2019

3. Student Services will inform students individually of ineligibility due to lack of credits or graduation requirements.

Behavior Before Commencement

Seniors are expected to show exemplary behavior through the last weeks of the school year and on commencement day. All school rules apply right through graduation day. Seniors need to be aware that poor behavioral choices could result in suspension from school, which may mean they would not be allowed to participate in the commencement ceremony. Students are encouraged to help one another make wise choices, especially during the last days of school.
 

Date, Time, Location

Commencement will be held on Friday, June 7th at 7:15 p.m. If weather permits, commencement will be held outdoors in Panther Stadium. Seniors will meet in the Auxiliary Gym at 6:30 p.m. If the weather is bad, commencement will be held in the Panther Gym. Each student (family) will receive 4 tickets for the indoor ceremony - (2) tickets for admission to the Panther Gym, and (2) tickets for admission to the overflow areas in the Fine Arts Center or Cafeteria on a first come first serve basis. Students will receive their four (4) tickets at commencement practice on June 7th. The decision to move the ceremony from outside into the gymnasium will be made by 12 p.m. on June 7th. The commencement hotline is 763-600-5990.  Please call that number any time after 12:00 p.m. on the day of commencement if you are unsure about where commencement is going to be held or check the school’s website.
 

Participation

Only seniors who meet all academic requirements and behavioral expectations may participate in commencement. Participating in commencement is voluntary; however, attendance at rehearsal is required for the commencement ceremony. Rehearsal is on Friday, May 31, 2019 at 8:10 a.m. in the high school Panther Gym.  Seniors will be given very specific information about the Commencement ceremony during rehearsal.
 

iPad Turn in

Seniors will attend school on June 6, 2019.  iPad turn in will begin at 8:10 a.m. 
 

Dress at commencement

All caps and gowns shall be the same color.

Males

• Cap, gown, tassel
• No altering graduation attire (cap and gowns)
• Collared shirt preferred
• Appropriate pants - no shorts or jeans
• Shoes and socks required - dark preferred

Females

• Cap, gown, and tassel
• No corsages, please
• No altering graduation attire (cap and gown)
• Slacks, skirts or dresses – No jeans
• Shoes required; No pointed spike heels; flat shoes preferred.  Students will be walking on the football field, and high heels sink into the turf making walking difficult.
   

Line-Up for Processional

• Graduates should arrive in the auxiliary gym by 6:30 p.m.
• Line-up and seating will be alphabetical.
• Restrooms will be available
• Monitoring standards for dress and behavior.
• Those suspected of alcohol or other chemical use will be checked
• Dress standards will be monitored
• Students will be removed from the line-up if standards are not met
   

Processional

•  “Pomp and Circumstance” will be played
• Graduates and faculty will enter in single file
   

Behavior Standards during Commencement

Students

• Behavior consistent with a dignified ceremony is expected
• No beverages
• No beach balls, bubbles, airplanes, or any such distractions
• No performances on stage (including gestures, yelling, and symbols)
• Expressions of celebration should be reserved until the ceremony is concluded
• No cap tossing at individuals
• Students who violate the behavior standards during the ceremony will not receive their diploma until a meeting with the student, parents, administrators, and selected school board members is held.  The diploma shall be awarded after the successful completion of the meeting.

Adults

• Please leave balloon bouquets at home, balloon bouquets obstruct the view of others. If any guests arrive with a balloon bouquet, they will be asked to leave it in a designated holding area during the ceremony. The school will not be responsible for the loss of these items.
• Guests are encouraged to dress in a manner in keeping with the dignity of the ceremony.
• For the courtesy and convenience of everyone, guests are asked to remain seated throughout the ceremony.
• Parents wishing to record the commencement ceremony on video are reminded that there will be a live broadcast as well as a delayed broadcast on Cable TV Channel 19 for Spring Lake Park and Blaine residents.  There will be a delayed broadcast on Fridley Channel 15.
• Those guests with special needs will be accommodated.  Requests for accommodations must be make no later than Wednesday, June 5th.  Please call Maria Norman at 763-600-5102 to request accommodations.
   

After the ceremony

At the conclusion of the ceremony, family members may mingle with graduates.

Graduates must drop off their gown by the pool ticket booth no later than 9 p.m.  Graduates attending the Senior All Night Party will leave directly from the high school.  Attendees must check-in in a timely manner.
 

Diplomas

• During the ceremony, the diploma cover will be awarded to each graduate.
• All graduates are asked to take care of all fees/obligations.  Payment plans will be available if needed.
•  All academic requirements are fulfilled
• All fees and fines are paid
• Commencement gown is turned in (cap and tassel may be kept)
• Fees can be paid before commencement or in the main office at other times
• Diplomas will be mailed to graduates after final grades have been posted to students’ transcripts
