Mission:
The purpose of Lighthouse School is to provide an enriched learning environment that matches the needs of self-directed, gifted and insatiable learners with curious minds, who are driven to make meaning of their world.

Vision:
The Lighthouse is a school for gifted and insatiable learners aligned around: 

• inquiry-based, complex learning, self direction and collaboration with intellectual peers under the guidance of a nurturing staff providing high expectations, choice and challenge
• fostering personalized experiences so that each student feels valued, inspired, challenged, and has a sense of belonging
• resulting in innovative and successful participation in future academic, life and career endeavors

A student’s school experience is an important part of your family’s life. Each day, we work tirelessly to know each student’s strengths, interests and needs, create a sense of belonging and learning experiences that engage and delight.

There are also the practical aspects of school – start and end times, procedures for absences, transportation, meals and more. We’ve compiled the basic information about how our schools operate in this handbook for students and families. Please review the information and refer to it, as needed, throughout the year.

Each year, we develop a School Improvement and Innovation Plan. The plan aligns to our Spring Lake Park Schools strategic plan and vision and includes projects to ensure – engaged and enthusiastic learners, effective operations, and communications and connections. Projects are identified based on student learning results and an assessment of how we are doing in implementing our plans and strategies. These projects guide our focus for staff professional learning and implementation activities.

Engaged and Enthusiastic Learners: Continuously improve personalized instruction and responsiveness to meet our students’ unique and varied needs.

• Deepen Innovative and Personalized Learning: Continue to development and implement the core elements of personalized learning — competency-based learning, learner profiles, personal learner maps, flexible learning environments
• Meeting the unique social and emotional needs of highly gifted learners: Align, strengthen, and communicate our system of supports for students’ academic, social-emotional, and mental health specific to the needs of gifted learners
• World Language: Implement refined world language approach at Lighthouse to deepen productive language acquisition learning experiences in grades 7-12
• Math: Review and deepen mathematical teaching practices that align with the SLP K-12 Math Framework

Effective Operations: Improve our effective management of human, financial and physical resources.

• Promotion and Recruitment: Develop and leverage best practices that will highlight the unique attributes of Lighthouse School programming and increase the likelihood of the recruitment of new students

Communications and Connections: Increase the connection, engagement and support of our families and communities.

• Build Community: Create the conditions that will allow students, staff, and community members to create authentic learning experiences that go beyond the classroom
