Call the nutrition service site manager at your child's school to check on the current balance. Please call before 10 a.m. or after 1 p.m. If you are connected to the site's voicemail, leave a message with your name and phone number, and the site manager will return your call.
Nutrition Services uses an Internet food service payment option, through Campus Parent Portal. Please note, payments can only be taken online and not through the Campus Parent mobile app.
If you send cash with your child please place it in a sealed envelope and write your child's complete name, grade, and student ID or cafeteria PIN number on the envelope. Cash is deposited into your child's account the same day it is received. Send cash at your own risk, cash is not preferred due to the inability to trace payments. Nutrition Services is not responsible for lost/stolen cash payments.
Personal Check
If you send a check with your child please place it in a sealed envelope and write your child's complete name, grade, and student ID or key pad number on the envelope.
Checks are deposited into your child's account the same day it is received by the kitchen manager

On Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m., families whose student’s meal account balance is negative $5 and below will receive an email and text message including the balance and a reminder to add funds for each student. These messages will be sent every Wednesday for each student whose account is negative $5 and below.
Automated low balance notifications
Families also have the opportunity to set up automated notifications for a specified dollar amount in Campus Parent Portal. Families can select to receive email and/or text notification or use the Campus Parent mobile app and setup push notifications. For example, a family may choose to be notified whenever their student’s meal account balance is below $10. These messages will be sent daily based on the dollar amount selected.
What happens if there is a low balance on my student's account?
Low balance for students in grades K-8
Students will be allowed to charge three meals if their account balance is at or below zero
Students are not allowed to purchase à la carte* items when the balance is at or below zero
À la carte food items include second meals, additional milk, additional juice, additional entrees, additional side food offerings, or any other food that may be offered that is not part of the regular lunch menu
Students are not allowed to share accounts or make purchases on behalf of another student
Low balance reminder slips are available at the cash register for students to take home
An automated reminder email will be made to the child’s home if the balance falls below $5.00

Balances stay in the student's accounts over the summer break, whether the balance is negative or positive. If the student moves to a new building, the balance will transfer.

Every student is assigned a key pad number once enrolled in the school district. This number allows the student to access his/her meal account and remains the same during their entire duration in Spring Lake Park Schools.

We believe that birthdays are special days for young children. As a school district, we are implementing new procedures to recognize birthdays while promoting a healthy school environment.
We ask parents to not bring food or other treats to celebrate a birthday. In lieu of bringing a treat, students may choose to bring a non-food item to share with the class, or as an alternative, a book or a rainy day game may be donated to the class.
Classroom teachers may provide a variety of age appropriate events for students on their birthdays. These special events may include cards from the teacher and/or classmates, wearing a special birthday crown or hat, having special classroom privileges, and singing a “Happy Birthday” song. Names of those celebrating their birthday are announced at the beginning of each day in their homerooms.
Managing food allergies in schools can be challenging. Education, communication, and cooperation are the keys to preventing allergic reactions in schools. Because food allergies could result in potentially life threatening anaphylaxis, it is important for parents/guardians to inform school food service employees, so everyone understands their role.
School district staff work together to protect student's from potential allergic reactions. Here are the steps we follow:
The process starts when parent/guardian contacts the school nurse to complete an allergy action plan
The school nurse sends the allergy list to the kitchen manager and an alert will be entered in the Point of Sale System
Each time the student comes through the line, an alert symbol will appear on the student's meal account
Together, the cashier and students must check the student's tray to be sure he/she does not have an item they are allergic to
Lactose free milk will be made available upon written request from parent/guardian.
Peanut and Tree Nut Allergies
Peanut butter sandwiches are served prepackaged to prevent cross contamination
All bakery items received, including sliced bread for sandwiches and toast, hamburger buns and hot dog buns, are manufactured in a tree nut and peanut free facility
For all other items on the menu, it's recommended the parent or guardian email Amy Kimmel at akimme@district16.org to determine if a food is "safe" for their child to eat
Families are always welcome to provide lunch from home for their student
Special Diet
If your child has a diagnosed disability that requires special dietary accommodations follow these steps:
Nutrislice is our online menu program. Parents and students have access to see what's for breakfast and lunch. An added feature to the program allows for us to identify the top 8 allergens found in our products. This is a great resource for students and parents to use to determine if a food is safe to eat.
If you have already used our catering services this year, click here fill out the Catering Request Form. The Catering Request Form must be returned at least 7 days in advance to Jane Sweney, Nutrition Services - 1415 81st Ave. NE, Spring Lake Park, MN 55432.
Fill out the Spring Lake Park Schools free or reduced-priced meal application and release form and be approved
The free or reduced-priced meal application and meal eligibility release form will be available in July and mailed to all student's homes in August
Remember, it is necessary to reapply for this benefit each school year. Reapply before the October grace period to avoid being charged for meals. You are responsible for any/all meal purchases until the application is received and processed.
The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act requires the information on this application. You do not have to give this information but if you do not, we cannot approve your child for free or reduced-price school meals. You must include the last four digits of the Social Security number of the adult household member who signs the application. The last four digits of the Social Security number are not required when you apply on behalf of a foster child, or you provide an MFIP, SNAP or FDPIR assistance number, or you indicate that the adult household member signing the application does not have a Social Security Number.
We will use your information to determine if your child qualifies for free school meals, and for administration and enforcement of the school meal programs. We may share your information with other education, health, and nutrition programs to help them evaluate, fund, or determine benefits for their programs, auditors for program reviews, and law enforcement officials to help them look into violations of program rules.
Children who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals may qualify for Minnesota Health Care Programs. Your child’s status for school meals may be shared with Minnesota Health Care Programs unless you tell us not to share your information by checking the box in Step 5 of the application. You are not required to share information for this purpose and your decision will not affect approval for school meal benefits.
Children who are eligible for free and reduced-price school meals may be eligible for Minnesota health insurance programs. Your child’s eligibility status for school meals (qualified for free or reduced-price meals) may be shared with the MinnesotaCare and General Assistance Medical Care programs unless you tell us not to share your information by checking the boxes in section 5 of the application. You are not required to share information for this purpose and your decision will not affect approval for school meal benefits.
