AP Exams

  • General AP Information

AP students may receive a copy of the 2017-2018 Bulletin for AP Students & Parents in their AP classes. This bulletin provides valuable information about the Advanced Placement Program and the 2018 AP Exam Schedule. An electronic copy is also on the website.

In May, students will have the opportunity to take a corresponding AP exam for AP courses taken at Spring Lake Park High School. These exams provide students with a world-wide standardized measure of what they have accomplished in the AP classroom. Taking an AP exam allows students an opportunity to experience a college level exam while still in high school. Scoring well may provide students with more options in college, such as upper level courses, double majors, or time for study abroad.

Important information about AP Exam registration

For the 2018 AP exams, students at Spring Lake Park High School will register online through Total Registration. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with Internet access at https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/241682

This year’s fee for each AP exam will be $92, but thanks to the MN Department of Education, we can offer it to our students for just $53. Students on Free & Reduced Lunch will have their fee waived.

Online exam registration will begin on Monday, January 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. and end on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 10 p.m. To register, students should click on the link provided on the school website or visit  www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/241682.

To complete registration, students must answer all required questions. Registration is not complete until students print the confirmation page that is provided at the end. We know that parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered.

Total Registration offers families the convenience of paying exam fees online at the time of registration. To pay online, please be sure to have a credit card or debit card available before beginning registration.

Here are the important dates for the registration process:

    • Friday, January 5, 2018 at 2 p.m. – Registration Begins
    • Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 10 p.m. – Registration Ends
    • Monday, March 6, 2018 at 10 p.m. – Registrations that have not been paid for will be cancelled and exams will not be ordered

Any student who chooses to "skip" an AP exam for which they are registered for will pay an additional fee, $15, charged by the College Board to SLPHS for returned unused exams. There will be an alternate exam for students with an excused absence (i.e. illness). Notify the AP coordinator ASAP if you need to take the late exam due to an excused absence.

    Preparation

Students must attend a pre-administration session to complete necessary pre-testing AP paperwork. Students will sign up for this during registration on total registration.

Students will find greater success the more prepared they are for the exam. Reviewing and studying the material for the year is a different skill than studying for unit tests. AP teachers can provide strategies for students to prepare for the exam.

    Testing

All AP exams will be given at Spring Lake Park High School.  All tests must start at the designated time set by the College Board; therefore, students will need to be at the designated room by 7:45 a.m. for the morning test and by 11:45 a.m. for the afternoon test. If a student arrives after the start time, they will not be allowed to take the test.
