Attendance & Absences
Being at school and in class is important for student learning. Regular school attendance is linked to student success in all aspects of school and academic achievement.
The research is clear, poor school attendance can impact students in many ways:
- Missing just two days a month can negatively impact a student's academic progress.
- Poor attendance can influence whether students read proficiently by the end of third grade.
- By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
- A high school graduate makes $1 million more than a dropout over a lifetime.
- A student who misses 10 days is 25 percent less likely to enroll in college.
When a student needs to be absent, we want to understand why so we can help support ongoing learning and development. Our goal is to work with parents and guardians to help their children have consistent – and on-time –attendance.
Not feeling well?
When you are not feeling well, it's hard to know if you should go to school or stay home. Our health services staff have provided these helpful guidelines.
Come to school if:
- you have a runny nose, a little cough but no fever
- your temperature is below 100 degrees
- you've had no diarrhea or fever in the last 24 hours
Stay at home if:
- your temperature is above 100 degrees
- you've thrown up or had diarrhea in the last 24 hours
- your coughing won't stop
- you are instructed by a doctor to stay home or isolate
