Discovery Days Child Care, Ages 3-5

• Five days a week: 
  • Full Day (7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.): $270 per week
  • Partial Day (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.): $245 per week
• Three or Four Days a Week:
  • Full Day (7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.): $68 per day
  • Partial Day (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.): $63 per day 

Registration: Registration for our Discovery Days program opens on Wednesday, March 1. Our spaces fill quickly. Do NOT wait to register if you would like a spot in our program.

Starting on or about March 10, registrations will be reviewed in the order that they were received by our online system. In order for a registration to be processed, all Community Education program balances must be paid in full. Accounts with a balance overdue will not be processed.

Our Child Care programs have a limited number of full-time and part-time spots. Upon confirmation by our registration staff that there is a spot for your child, the registration will be processed and the registration fee will be collected. Registrants will receive an email confirmation that the registration is complete.

Invoice Schedule and Details:

• Timeline: Payment for care will be due one week in advance of the care week.

• Timeline: Changes to contract must be made by the Wednesday prior to invoice.

• Accounts not paid by Wednesday the week before your care week are subject to suspension of care beginning with the unpaid care week.

• Simplify your account and avoid late or missed payments by setting up auto-pay. Sign into your account at SpringLakePark.ce.eleyo.com, click on your child’s child care account and selecting “Manage Account”.

• Late fees of $10 will be charged on accounts that are not paid by the Due Date and will continue to accrue until paid in full.

Program hours: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. (participants break into home-room groups for daily activities)

Drop-off: 7-9 a.m. and Pick-up: 4-5:30 p.m.

W.O.W.     We will enjoy several “Wheels on Wednesday” events by blocking off a parking lot to ride our wheels! Your children may bring their bikes, scooters, rollerblades or anything with wheels!

Breakfast, Lunch, and Afternoon Snack     No extra fees! Breakfast and lunch are provided by SLP Schools’ Summer Food Program, Monday through Thursday. A bag lunch and beverage from home will be needed on Fridays (and on some field trip days during the week). Friday breakfast and all afternoon snacks are provided by the Discovery Days program.

Weekly Field Trips and/or Special Events

No extra fees! Staff will plan and prepare on-site activities and events and off-site field trips. Participants will be provided with a Summer t-shirt to wear on all field trips for quick identification when exploring new places. Field trips and special events are included in tuition.

Trek Through Time

Throughout the summer, our students and staff will explore our changing world through time: decades, centuries, and millennium. Staff will create activity options to engage students in learning about geography, biodiversity, customs, entertainment, fads, fashions, innovations, and inventions. In addition to these activities, we will challenge our minds and bodies to grow stronger with enrichment opportunities, outdoor games, outdoor water play, walking trips, and bus field trips to exciting, fun sites. 

Dates, Weekly Themes and Events

June 12-16: Land Before Time - Field trip to Shoreview Commons Park - Outdoor Playground on Friday. Bus departs at 9:30 a.m. and returns about 2:30 p.m.

June 20-23: Ancient times - The Jolly Pops band will be on-site to perform at 10 a.m. on Friday.

June 26-30: Middle Ages 1500-1600 - Field trip to Sidekick Theater on Thursday. Bus departs at 9 a.m. and returns about 12:30 p.m.

July 5-7: Happy Birthday, America! 1776 - We will have an outdoor inflatable water-slide/jumper on-site on Friday.

July 10-14: The 19th Century 1800-1899 - Field trip to Andover Cinema to watch "Elemental" on Friday. Bus departs at 8:30 a.m. and returns about 11:30 a.m.

July 17-21: Turn of the Century 1900-1930 - Bruce the Bug Guy will be on-site at 10 a.m. on Thursday.

July 24-28: Decades: 1940s, 50s, 60s - Field trip to Circus Juventas on Thursday. Bus departs at 12 p.m. and returns about 3 p.m.

July 1-Aug 4: Decades: 1970s, 80s, 90s - A Kona Shaved Ice truck will be on-site at 12 noon on Friday.

August 7-11: Famous Zoos - Field trip to Children's Museum on Friday. Bus departs at 9:15 a.m. and returns about 1:45 p.m.

August 14-18: Famous Monuments - Field trip to Inneractive on Friday. Bus departs at 9:45 a.m. and returns about 1:15 p.m.

August 21-25: All Things Minnesota - End of summer Celebration on Thursday.

Children in Discovery Days will typically participate in the following schedule on a daily basis, however the schedule in each classroom may vary slightly.

• A change of clothes. Shirt, pants, underwear and socks to leave in your child’s locker in case of accidents/spills.

Yes, there is personal time after lunch devoted to resting. Children are encouraged to rest their bodies; they do not have to nap. They will have their own cots to rest on so if they would like to bring a blanket, pillow and/or stuffed animal, they may. You can keep these items in your child’s locker. Please bring them home on a regular basis to wash.

A snack from home is not needed. An afternoon snack will be provided.

Breakfast and lunch are catered to Discovery Days from the high school cafeteria. At this time, only one choice is offered for each; there is not an alternate. If there is something on the menu your child will not eat, you may send a cold lunch from home. (Note:  Parents will need to send a bag lunch and beverage on non school days as the kitchens are closed on these days.) See our Menu here.

• Breakfast is served from 7:45-8:30 a.m.
• Lunch is served at 12 p.m.

Please apply sunscreen on your child in the morning before arriving. As of November 1, 2018, our program was Certified by the Minnesota Department of Human Services as required by new federal laws.  Under Certification requirements, we cannot apply sunscreen for your child without written permission and a labeled bottle of sunscreen from home.  Please send a labeled bottle of sunscreen for your child.

To keep our students, their families, and staff safe and healthy,  we will be following Health and Safety Guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health. Our programming will follow all Spring Lake Park Schools Health & Safety Measures.  Please visit our FAQ for specifics related to childcare. As required by MDH for Certified Centers, our staff are operating under the guidance of a Covid-19 Preparedness Plan that protects children, families, staff and community. Parents who would like to review the plan should ask staff for a copy.
