Discovery Days Child Care, Ages 3-5

Health & Safety Measures

In order to keep our students, their families, and staff safe and healthy,  will be following Health and Safety Guidelines from the Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Education.  Our programming will follow all Spring Lake Park Schools Health & Safety Measures.  Please visit our FAQ for specifics related to childcare.

  • At arrival before parents leave, children will be screened for wellness. Students who do not meet MDH guidelines will not be able to stay on-site. Staff will provide parents with follow-up instructions necessary before students can return to attend.
  • Students will be expected to wash their hands at arrival and frequently throughout the day.
  • Toys, equipment, materials and spaces will be washed and sanitized frequently throughout the day.
  • Students will be grouped in small pod sizes and intermingling with other pod groups will be restricted.
  • Our spaces will allow for social distance between individuals at play, at table activities, at meals, and other activities.
  • Procedures may be added and/or revised per MDH changes in guidelines.
  • Staff will wear face coverings, students are not required to wear face coverings.

As required by MDH for Certified Centers, our staff are operating under the guidance of a Covid-19 Preparedness Plan that protects children, families, staff and community. Parents who would like to review the plan should ask staff for a copy.

Discovery Days offers kindergarten readiness & child care for your child while you work.

The program prepares children for kindergarten by integrating literacy, math, science, social studies, art, social/emotional development, and physical development throughout its curriculum activities.

Discovery Days follows the school-year calendar. We are open for "Non School Day" services on most days that school is closed.

Who: Children who are 3- or 4-years old by September 1 of the 2020-2021 school year, and mostly toilet-trained.

When: Open 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. on school days and most non-school days from September 8, 2020 – June 10, 2021 (please note that our start date remains on September 8; the first day of K-12 "school" has changed to September 10 )

Where: Conveniently located at our Early Childhood Centers at Centerview Elementary and the District Services Center

Flexible Scheduling: Three to five days per week, Monday through Friday. Full-day (7 a.m.-5:30 p.m.) and Partial-day (9 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) options are available.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Afternoon Snack:  Breakfast and lunch are provided by SLP Schools' Nutrition Services Department on school days. When school is not in session, a bag lunch and beverage from home will be needed.  Breakfast on non school days and all afternoon snacks are provided by the Discovery Days program.

Non School Days:  Most days when school is closed, Discovery Days is still open for care. Care and activities are offered on the following dates:  October 12-15, December 7, 28-31, February 12, March 12, 15-19, and 22. These dates are NOT part of your regular contracted care. Families must register for the dates as needed. All care on Non School Days is provided at the Centerview location. A bag lunch and beverage from home will be needed.  Breakfast on non school days and all afternoon snacks are provided by the Discovery Days program.

Discovery Days Program Rates:

  • Five days a week: 
    • Full Day (7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.): $240 per week
    • Partial Day (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.): $215 per week
  • Three or Four Days a Week:
    • Full Day (7 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.): $60 per day
    • Partial Day (9 a.m. – 4 p.m.): $55 per day 

Registration: Registration for our Discovery Days program opened on Monday, February 3. Our spaces fill quickly. Do NOT wait to register if you would like a spot in our program. Current families received priority from February 3 through February 14.

Starting on or about February 15, registrations are reviewed in the order that they were received by our online system. In order for a registration to be processed, all Community Education program balances must be paid in full. Accounts with a balance overdue will not be processed.

Our Child Care programs have a limited number of full-time and part-time spots. Upon confirmation by our registration staff that there is a spot for your child, the registration will be processed and the registration fee will be collected. Registrants will receive an email confirmation that the registration is complete.
