Spring Lake Park Schools’ youngest learners, preschool through sixth grade, returned to full-time learning in our school buildings Thursday, January 21.

“There were a lot of smiling eyes, boisterous greetings and wonderful noise in the hallways,” says Jeff Ronneberg, superintendent. “We are thrilled to have so many students back in our school buildings.”

Grades 7-12 transition Feb. 16

The 14-day rolling average of COVID-19 cases in Anoka County is now trending below 30 cases per 10,000 residents. This is good news for getting middle and high school students and staff back to more time learning together at school.

Given the trends, Spring Lake Park Schools students in grades 7-12 will transition to a Modified Campus (hybrid) model beginning Feb. 16.

Students who have chosen the hybrid model will transition back to the hybrid model. Students who have chosen Extended Flexible Learning (distance) will continue in Extended Flexible Learning. At the trimester transition, requests to move from Extended Flexible Learning to Modified Campus will be considered. Families continue to have the option to transition to distance learning at any time.

The return to a Modified Campus (hybrid) model will return students to their previous schedules with “A” days on Mondays and Thursdays, “B” days on Tuesdays and Fridays, and Wednesdays continuing as at-home learning days. All health and safety guidelines for the hybrid model outlined in the Safe Learning Plan will continue to be in place for grades 7-12.

Timeline for 7-12 transition

The state’s Safe Learning Plan requires districts take two planning days for any transition in learning model. For this transition, these days will be taken in conjunction with previously scheduled days for conferences and communication and the President’s Day holiday.

Here is the plan:

• Feb. 10-11: No new learning for ALL students in grades 7-12. Students are encouraged to use these days to catch up on any outstanding work and should look for more information from their teachers. Teachers and staff will use these to prepare for the return to school buildings.
• Feb. 12: Conferences and communication - No school for students
• Feb. 15: President’s Day holiday – No school
• Feb. 16:
  • “B” day students in the hybrid model return to the school building.
  • “A” day students in the hybrid model will learn at home. Their first day back in the school building will be Thursday, Feb. 18.
  • Students in Extended Flexible Learning will resume learning online.
