Panther student-athletes Kaleb Skelly and Nick Wetzel signed their National Letters of Intent on February 3 to play football at the collegiate level during the 2021-2022 school year. Kaleb will play at Northern State University in South Dakota and Nick will play at Mayville State University in North Dakota.

Kaleb Skelly - Northern State University (NSU), NCAA Division II

Kaleb has accomplished a lot during his football career, including being selected as the North Suburban MVP, being named all-district his junior and senior year and being named all-state his senior year. He was also a part of the team that won the section championship all three years he played varsity football.

Kaleb says he choose Northern State University because of its thorough recruiting process. The connections the coaches made during that initial process made him feel valued.

“After visiting with the campus and connecting with the players and coaches, I could tell this program is transitioning into something special and I knew I wanted to be a part of it,” says Kaleb.

Head football coach John Stewart says Northern State University is getting a great athlete and person of high character with Kaleb.

“Kaleb has represented Panther football well on and off the field during his time at Spring Lake Park Schools,” says John. “His athleticism and work ethic will lead to good things on the field and in the NSU community.”

Nick Wetzel - Mayville State University (MSU), NAIA

“I choose Mayville State University because I liked the school and community when I went to visit,” says Nick. “I felt like I had a good rapport with the coaching staff and I like the direction they are taking the program, so I decided I wanted to be a part of what they are trying to do there.”

During his athletic career, Nick was on the varsity track and field and football team for three years and was named all-district two times. He was also a part of the team who won the section championship all three years he played varsity football.

Head football coach John Stewart says the Panther coaching staff is excited for Nick to pursue his academic interests and football career at Mayville State University next school year.

“Over the last four years, Nick has been a tireless worker and is a tremendous student of the game,” says John. “Nick has provided a great example to our underclassmen about how to work and prepare. He has a bright future ahead of him at MSU.”
