Kids eat free this summer at Woodcrest Elementary.

The Spring Lake Park School District will again participate in the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Summer Food Service Program. Breakfast and lunch will be provided to all children ages 18 and under -at no cost-- at Woodcrest Elementary School, 880 Osborne Road, Fridley MN 55432.

The program will run each Monday through Thursday, from June 10 to August 22, 2013. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 to 9:00 am and lunch from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. The program is open to area children --not limited to Woodcrest or School...

Kindergarten parents, mark your calendars!  On Monday, June 3 we will be gathering to celebrate the many exciting accomplishments and the growth that your children have made during their first year here at Woodcrest Elementary!  We will be having a graduation program for Mrs. Farid’s morning class and Mrs. Sorenson’s class at 9:45 that day and one at 2:00 for Mrs. Farid’s and Ms. Dieterman’s afternoon classes and Mrs. Strohmayer’s class.

Over the past few months Woodcrest teachers have been working collaboratively to implement the use of iPads and iPod Touches into their instruction.  Our goal is to use these devices to support student learning.  As teams have worked and learned together, our students are benefiting for some pretty engaging and productive instructional experiences with this new technology.

It has been determined that our third grade students could benefit from additional time to complete the MCA Reading Tests.  The Minnesota Department of Education has made changes and additions to the test this year and we have found that the students will likely need more time than originally scheduled to allow them to do their very best and to complete the test.

We have added an additional testing day to our schedule so our students will now be testing on the morning of Thursday, April 25 in addition to the Tuesday the 23rd and Wednesday the 24th.

The students have had their last book check out this week, April 22-26.  Our library will be closed earlier than in the past, due to the merger of the Park Terrace and Woodcrest libraries.

Start looking in all those nooks and crannies for any library books.  All books are due back into our library by Friday, May 3. Students are responsible for returning all books and paying for lost or damaged books.

Join us at the Spring Lake Park High School Fine Arts Center  on Thursday, May 9 at 7:00 pm when our first, second, and third grade students will be performing a selection of music celebrating  America.  

Students will be walking with their teachers to the high school that morning to practice.  Please watch for more information coming home with your child. 

Students will need to arrive at the Fine Arts Center at 6:30 pm.  You may enter the high school at door 1, the rotunda off of 81st Ave.

Join us on Friday, April 26th from 6:00-7:30 for a great evening of family fun!  Tickets will be available at the door and  are just $5.00 per family.

Admission includes crazy hair, tattoos, face painting, BINGO, a photo booth, a dance party, and petting zoo!  In addition there will be concessions available and Grandpa’s ice cream cones.

 All third through eighth grade students in the State of Minnesota will be taking the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment Test (MCA).  Our third grade students will be taking the reading test on April 23 and 24 and the Math MCA tests on April 30 & May 1 (Ms. Dedrickson & Mrs. Miller classes) and May 7 & 8 (Mrs. Trowbridge/Mrs. Vaillant classes).

This is a reminder that Friday, April 19 is a scheduled Early Release Day for all schools as staff will be participating in afternoon inservice and profession learning activities.  Schools will let out two hours earlier than the normal release times, buses will operate two hours earlier than their normal afternoon times. There is no afternoon kindergarten.
