1.  Attention Power Up students: Winter Session continues today!!  Please report directly to the Media Center after school.  You wil be receiving a reminder note in Pride today.  If you can no attend you must have a parent or guardian call or bring in a note to reserve your spot.
 
2.  There will be a meeting for all 7th and 8th graders interested in playing Boy's Basketball on Friday, Jan. 9 at 3:00 p.m. in the TTR.  See Coach Wilson if you have any questions.
 
3.  Try-outs for this year's spring musical "Annie" will be held this Monday and Tuesday after school in Room 180.  Interested actors and actresses should pick up a try-out packet at the Greeter's desk.  There will be an optional music rehearsal this Friday.  Read the packet carefully and see Ms. Howard or Ms. Fahey if you have any questions.
 
4.  Lego League will meet today after school!
 
5.  Soundtrax Choir meets tomorrow, Friday, this week at 7:00 a.m.  See you there!

1.  Do you need help with your homework?  Are you looking for a quiet place to study?  Then come to the Homework Help Center today after school.  The Homework Help Center is open every Tuesday and Wednesday after school from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
 
2.  7th grade Jazz Band will meet tomorrow morning at 7:00 a.m.
 
3.  The Yearbook meeting tonight is canceled but will be held on Friday this week.

6.  Beginning tomorrow during 4th period, prior to "A" lunch, the locker bays will be completely locked down and no student access will be allowed during this time.  All students will need to bring their fourth period books with them to their third period classes.  You will also need to bring your bag lunch to third period if you have one.  The locker bays will be accessible to students during the passing time between 4th and 5th periods.
 
7.  Registration forms are now available in the office for the Spring Lake Park Winter Dance clinic.  Come and learn a dance routine from the SLPHS Dance Team and perform it at the halftime of a varsity basketball game.
 
8.  Congratulations to the finalists who participated in the final National Geographic Bee.  The third place winner was 7th grader, David Ruch.  8th graders, Ben Allen and Lee Kallestad competed in the Championship Round.  Lee placed second and the school champion is Ben Allen.  Great job kids!

2.  The Karoake party is today after school!  Remember, you must have your permission form turned in this morning along with $1.00 or two cans of food for the Anoka County Food Shelf.
 
3.  Students, if you are missing a clothing item, you must look through the lost and found boxes in the office no later than noon today.  If the items are still there by Monday afternoon, they will be boxed up and donated to a local shelter.

1.  Just a reminder.....purchase a singing holiday messaage for your friend for just $3.00.  Encore members will personally deliver the singing holiday message next Tuesday, Dec. 23rd.  All proceeds will go to the Salvation Army.  Don't miss out on this great way to share the holiday spirit!

1.  Lego Club will not be meeting today.  Next week, Lego Club will only meet on Monday, Dec. 15, not on Friday.  After the holdays, we will be meeting after school on Thursdays.  Please talk to Mr. Kretchmar if you have any questions.
 
2.  Attention Encore students: because of our concert at Northtown on Monday, we will have rehearsal on Monday AND Tuesday next week!  Attendance is crucial!  See you on Monday morning at 6:55 a.m.
 
3.  Attention students and staff: this is just a reminder that the Real Men Read Event is this Saturday, Dec. 13th from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. at the Northtown Barnes and Noble.  Several of your beloved staff will be reading from their favorite books throughout the day.  Come and see Mr. Axtman and Mr. Young at 10:00!  At noon, Mr. Finerghty will be reading from "Lord of the Rings"!  Mr. Potthoff and Mr. Snyder will be in the spotlight at 4:00!  A variety of other men from the district and your community will be reading throughout the day too.  A percentage of the net sale of books you buy will go towards buying books for WMS students, as long as you use the voucher number that was handed out in Pride last week.  If anyone wants another orange voucher, please come and get one from the Media Center front desk.  They also make great bookmarks!  We hope to see everyone there and just remember....real men read!

4.  Congratulations to the Knowledge Masters Team who competed in the difficult 200 question meet last Tuesday.  In this International Competition they placed 1st in Minnesota and placed in the top 4% of the 639 middle school teams that participated.  The competition students were: Matt Albers, Ben Allen, Michele Heggerston, Gabe Bensaad-Johnson, Bobni Das, Leon Ding, Saarh Fetter, Jocelyn Bayer, Andy Johnson, Asha Mishra, Nikitha Potturi, and Bailey Wright.  Way to go kids!

3.  Congratulations to all of our Spring Lake Park bowlers.  All three teams: Varsity, Junior Varsity White and Junior Varsity Blue are going to the State Championship tournaments.  Westwood Team Bowlers are: Sam Kaus, Joe Johnson, Nick Napier, and Barrett Stachowski.  To bowl in the Minnesota High School League, students must be in 7th grade or older.  The teams bowl together from Mid-August to December.  Any students interested in bowling next year may see Mr. Axtman in Room 156.
