Spring Lake Park High School has been awarded a grant from the Panther Foundation to increase reading among boys. The United States Department of Education reading tests have shown boys scoring lower than girls every year, in every age group for the past 30 years. Research states that young men see reading as a feminine activity and therefore steer away from it. One way to change this perception is for men both at home and in the community to read aloud to boys and to show that reading is an activity men value.
