Student Parking

The student parking lot is coordinated by the Community Education Department. Permits are sold by priority order (see below) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., starting August 11, 2008. Permit applications are available in the Community Education office (1415-81st Avenue, door #2) daily starting the first week in August. Due to (temporary) limited parking during construction, parking permits are available only for seniors and juniors. Unless a sophomore lives outside the school district boundaries (open-enrolled) or has a compelling need to drive, permits will not be available for sophomores.

The student parking lot is located on the east side of the campus (Highway 65 and 79th Avenue). Students may only park in this student-designated lot; but are not allowed to park in the Able Street staff lots or behind any of the buildings. There will be a small number of Learning Alternatives student-designated spaces in the former Kenneth Hall staff lot. Students who use the student parking lot beyond the normal school day should continue to park in the designated student parking area. Students should never park in the areas designated for visitors or staff.

For the safety and security of all, security personnel monitor the student parking lot during the school day. All student vehicles parked in the lot must display a student-parking permit at all times. Parking permits are required beginning on the first day of school. Beginning the first week of school, permit applications, daily permits, and questions should be directed to the security guard during school hours in the parking lot security shed.

Student permits are issued for the school year, by trimester, for limited use, or on a daily basis. Students are strongly encouraged to purchase Annual permits. Trimester Permits are designed for a student who may only need to use the parking facility for one or two trimesters, or who cannot afford the entire Annual Permit fee at one time. Limited Use Trimester Permits are available for a student who will be at school for less than 3 hours a day. These permits might be used by a PSEO student (one who takes college classes during the regular school day as part of his/her curriculum), an OEC (Occupations in Emergency Care) student who attends class here only first and second hour, or a Construction Trades student who is on campus only for an afternoon class. A student who attends school more than three hours a day must buy a regular Trimester or Annual Permit. Students in the Learning Alternatives program are also required to purchase a student parking permit if a car is driven to school and parked here. Daily permits are issued until gone. The daily lot will then be considered full, and additional students seeking daily parking will be turned away.

To receive a permit, students need to go to the Community Education Office at 1415-81st Avenue in the District Services Center, use door #2. Students need to complete the necessary paperwork, pay the entire fee, and present a valid Minnesota Driver's License. Please note that any outstanding parking fines must be paid before a permit will be issued. Fees may be paid by cash, check, or Visa or MasterCard. Questions? Call 763-786-1338.

Parents should read and understand the policies outlined on the parking permits. Parents must sign permit applications for students under the age of 18. Students receive a copy of the signed permit application so parents and students are always aware of rules and regulations.

Permit Priority: Permits will be sold beginning the week of August 11 according to these established priorities:

* August 11-August 15 Seniors and By need (PSEO, work-study, trades, 916, open enrollment, independent study, etc.)
* August 18-August 22 Juniors

Starting the first day of school, all vehicles parked in the student parking lot must have a permit; those without permits will be ticketed.

Trimester Permits: Students who purchase a Trimester Permit must renew the permit during the last week of the trimester in order to purchase the next trimester permit. Any Trimester Permit not re-purchased by 2:30 p.m. on the last day of the trimester will be sold to someone on the waiting list. There can be no exceptions. It is in the student’s best interest to purchase an Annual Permit at the beginning of the school year to avoid this hassle.
If at any time a student has a question or problem in the parking lot, he/she should talk to the parking lot security guard as soon as possible. Prompt communication is vital. We are here to help, but we cannot address a problem or situation if it is not reported to the security guard. If a student needs help and doesn’t see the security guard, the student should stop in at the high school office or the Community Education office. Parents or students should call the security guard at 763-795-5132 between the hours of 6:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. After hours please leave a message on the voice mail or contact Community Education at 763-786-1338.
