National School Lunch Week is Oct. 15-19

You might be aware that changes are in the works that will continue to improve our school lunch program.
In our continued effort to improve the quality and experience of our program, the Spring Lake Park School District has partnered with Chef Marshall O'Brien who is working with our nutrition staff to develop delicious new menu items that meet the new USDA guidelines which require more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
What does that mean for students? Well, students can expect to see new menu items to choose from in the coming months. But, rather than implement huge changes right away, we are using baby steps to get student feedback throughout the process.
When we introduce new foods, we'll offer students a chance to taste and vote on whether or not they would like to see each new food item on the menu. This will give our staff the feedback they need to adjust recipes and introduce your children to delicious, nutritious food. We will also provide recipes for you to make these dishes at home. We hope you will enjoy these foods as a family and, together, make a commitment to nutritious eating and a healthy lifestyle.
You can get to know Chef Marshall by visiting his website at chefmarshallobrien.com and subscribing to his e-newsletter, or by following him on Facebook and Twitter.
