3 to 5-year-old "playschool" participants needed for Child Development Class
The Spring Lake Park High School Child Development class is looking for children ages 3 to 5 to participate in a one-hour, ten-session "playschool" at the high school.
The playschool will be from 12:20 - 1:25 pm beginning Tuesday, Nov. 6 and ending on Wed., Nov. 21 in the school's Child Development classroom. (The playschool will not take place on these Mondays: Nov. 5, 12, and 19.)
What is the playschool experience? Children will be greeted at the main entrance (rotunda) of the high school at 12:20 pm, escorted to the playschool classroom by students in the Child Development class, and will escort the children back to their parents in the main entrance at 1:25 pm. Each day at playschool will feature different activities; the high school students will serve as "teachers" and take turns leading.
Participants will spend an hour on each of the ten days learning basic skills, creating art projects, playing games, singing songs, and interacting with their classmates.
High school students in the Child Development course learn about parenting, prenatal care, and the physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth of the child. Many of the students are thinking of pursuing a career with children such as teacher, pediatrics, day care, or nursing. Hands-on learning and observations are an important part of the class. Most students have been trained in first aid and/or CPR.
Twenty-year veteran Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) teacher Lori Henry will be in the classroom at all times during the one-hour playschool classes. To learn more, have all of your questions answered, or to register your child, contact Ms Henry at Lhenry@district16.org or 763-786-5571 ext. 5691. The registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 30.
