Family Fun and 5K/2K Walk/Run event is Saturday, Sept. 29

The Spring Lake Park Schools Panther Foundation is proud to announce the 2nd Annual Family Fun 5K/2K Walk & Run & Event to be held Saturday, September 29 during Homecoming Weekend.

Registration on that day opens in the high school main entrance/rotunda at 10:00 am.

5K Walk & Run participants will start at 11:00 am at Spring Lake Park High School’s Panther Stadium, travel around the high school property, move down Able Street towards Osborne, travel Osborne to Terrace and then to 80th back to the high school. This course is fun for the experienced runner or the casual walker with a stroller or wagon. The 2K will be a once-around-the-high school.

In addition to the 5K/2K Walk & Run, the Foundation is hosting a Family Fun Event to be held outdoors, weather permitting, at Panther Stadium. The Family Fun Event will run from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. The event will feature huge inflatable bouncers, children's activities, and entertainment provided by Spring Lake Park High School student bands.  There will also be a booth with the latest Panther spirit ware for sale (cash, check, credit card).

The Walk & Run is rain or shine. The Family Fun Event may be moved indoors depending on weather.

The Panther Foundation is partnering with the Spring Lake Park Schools to offer this affordable, family-friendly, and fun event. Chris Hasling Panther Foundation chairperson, said "We look forward to bringing our community together on a beautiful fall Saturday at the end of Homecoming Week to promote health and wellness, a sense of community, and to raise awareness and some funds for the Foundation’s efforts to helps kids in our schools.  I want to give a special thanks to Allina Health-Unity Hospital whose donation will allow a number of families to participate -- financially-- who otherwise might not be able."

Colleen Pederson, the district’s Director of Community Education, said: "As a school district we are always looking for ways for the schools and the community to make connections.  Our inaugural Family Fun Run was a big success, and we hope to see double the particants this year. The Panther Foundation has given so much back to our schools - now over $500,000 since 2004 --  so this is a great opportunity to support them in this work and have fun doing it!"
