In May, the school board endorsed a district plan to begin expanding the use of technology in the fall, a plan which will eventually put a technology learning device in the hands of almost every student in the district. The primary goal of the initiative is the continuous improvement of student engagement, personalizing and improving the learning of each student, and providing equitable access to technology.

The plan is the culmination of years of professional learning efforts, development of a comprehensive technology plan, numerous pilots and ongoing evaluation of a wide variety of technologies, researching, visiting, and learning from benchmark school districts, staff input, as well as establishing a partnership with the Farmington School District to realize efficiencies in planning and purchasing and to improve effectiveness in implementation.

The 1:1 Digital Learning Initiative –one learning device for one learner—will roll out in September on a small scale, with additional phase-in steps over the following 4-5 months.
