For 2010-2011, the Spanish Immersion Program for kindergarten and first grade learners will be in a “school-within-a-school” on the site of Westwood Intermediate School, 701 91st Avenue NE, Blaine.
The start time for first grade students and for full-day kindergarten students will be 8:45 a.m. and the school day will end at 3:20 p.m. The half-day kindergarten program times are 8:45 – 11:15 a.m. and 12:50 – 3:20 p.m.
Taking it to the next level: a “school-within-a-school”
The goal for year two is to take the program to the next level. The reasons for choosing one site are many, including the ability:

to create a special learning environment with all Immersion students in one location

to have all Immersion staff together, enabling professional dialogue and sharing of ideas of as they work together to meet the needs of students.

to have additional options for groupings of learners, teachers, and support staff

to better address changes in enrollment, to continue to provide all program options to all district families, to concentrate and maximize resources and staffing, and to provide a vibrant and successful educational experience
- to have parents together as well, to create family events to enrich the experiences of students and their families, and to build an even greater sense of community

When will you know more details?
An Information Meeting will be held at Westwood Intermediate School on Tuesday, April 27, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.
An Open House for students and parents on Wednesday, June 2, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., at our new site. Families can tour the school and visit with some of our Immersion teachers.
An Open House/Meet-And-Greet for our Immersion families will take prior to the start of school in the fall.
