Workplace Safety

To involve labor and management in a cooperative effort to promote safety and health in each of the district’s workplaces, as well as to satisfy the requirements of MS 182.676, MR 5208, and MDE.

Extent of Authority
The safety committee will aid and advise management about safety and health issues in the workplace. All recommendations from the safety committee will be submitted to management. Management will consider the recommendations and respond to the safety committee within a reasonable time.

• Review health and safety programs and records
• Review employee safety suggestions/concerns
• Review safety inspection reports and/or participate in safety inspections
• Review injury reports
• Participate/follow up on accident investigations
• Discuss accident prevention methods; identify best practices
• Participate in training related to these functions & duties
• Provide recommendations for elimination or control of hazards
• Disseminate applicable safety information to supervisors and/or employees

• Information provided to all employees – committee purpose, schedule, membership list, activities, system for reporting issues/concerns, need for cooperation and support, meeting records (agenda, attendance, and minutes).
• Methods of communication - email, website, newsletter, bulletin board postings, etc.
