S.T.A.R.S. Summer Programs

"Working together to help students achieve their best."

S.T.A.R.S.provides opportunities for identified elementary-aged at-risk learners to access additional services and assistance before/after school hours and during the summer months. The goal of S.T.A.R.S. is to help learners improve academic and social skills that they need to build their confidence so they will stay in school and have a successful school career.

Services that may be included in S.T.A.R.S. for an individual learner may include personal (emotional and physical) needs, academic needs, and social needs. Within each building the curriculum, activities, and/or means of delivery by which these are addressed is determined by the needs of the learner with input from teachers, and parent/guardian. Each extended learning activity is designed with goals and assessments that interface with District 16 curriculum goals.

Each learner identified for programming will have a Continuous Learning Plan (CLP) which follows the learner for one year to identify appropriate goals. The purpose of the CLP is to provide a link between the extended activities and the individual learner's school plan. Learners may be referred at any time by school staff to the program, but must qualify under the Minnesota Department of Education High School Graduation Incentives criteria.

The underlying belief of the STARS program is to give learners additional educational opportunities to improve their academic, life, social, and coping skills through extended-day and summer sessions.
