What is the High School Bigs Program?
High School Bigs is a mentoring program for District 16 10th - 12th grade students.  In this program, the high school student spends time building a friendship with an elementary student. Being a High School Big gives you a chance to help a child share their interests, and build a cool friendship!

What's the time commitment of the High School Bigs Program?
Students are asked to commit to a child for  at least one school year.  The mentor will meet with the "Little" once a week for approximately one hour.

What activities are available at school?
With the help of the Big Brothers Big Sister Match Coordinator and/or the child's teacher, the mentor and child will choose activities they both enjoy. Spending time in the library, computer lab, gym or just reading or playing games in the classroom are all possibilities.

How do the children and volunteers become involved?
Kids are referred to the program by their teachers or other school personnel, with the parent's approval.  High School Bigs are invited to join the program. Each high school interested in the program will go through a thorough screening process. This process includes an application, parent permission, references and a short interview.

When and where do the mentor and child meet?
Weekly one-to-one sessions are scheduled according to both the elementary student and the high school student's availability during the school week.  The match will always meet at the elementary school.  The Big Brother Big Sister Coordinator will inform you of what rooms are available and where you can go during the time you meet with your Little
