| Description of sport/activity: |
The student council acts as a liaison between the student body, the administration, and the school board. Members are involved year round in planning activities that benefit members of the district 16 school community. The council is invovled in the National Association of Student Councils and actively participates in the Minnesota Association of Student Councils through the East Metro division. |

Students are elected by members of their grade level and serve for 1 school year. |

Meetings are held on Wednesdays during the school day and rotate through the schedule. In addition, there are meetings held throughout the summer. Students are also expected to participate in all council functions. |

| Eligibility requirements: |
Student Council candidates must participate in the spring election and be voted in by members of their class. Membership consists of 5 freshmen, 6 sophomores, 7 juniors, and 9 seniors. In addition, the SLPHS Student Council Constitution gives the advisors the ability to appoint two additional members who participated in the election process. |

Once elected to the student council, members have the opportunity to participate in a variety of leadership positions. For example, there are two student council members who serve as non-voting members on the School Board. |
