Leo Club: Community Service Organization

Meets every Wednesday at 2:45 in the Cafeteria

World Cultures Club: Learn about countries and cultures from around the world, and become friends with kids in our school who are exchange students from some of those countries!

Meets the 1st or 2nd Tuesday of the month in room C275.

Meets monthly to plan something outside of school, like hayrides, haunted house, bonfires, ice skating, movies, bowling, dance lessons, etc.

Knowledge Bowl: Like Trivial Pursuit? Want to learn lots of factoids to impress your friends?

Meets Wednesdays and Fridays in room C268. Takes part in inter-school competitions, as well.

FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America): Want to learn more about leadership, and get involved in community issues? Great opportunities for service, leadership, travel and competition!

Meets 2nd and 4th Thursdays, and some Tuesdays, 2:45 in room B147

$25 annual dues cover regional, state and national dues (students are given opportunities to raise funds throughout the year to pay the dues owed)

Theater: Drama (fall), One Acts (winter), Musical (spring)

Lots of opportunities for students who like to sing, act, dance, direct, make costumes, build sets, etc. Watch for posters around school for auditions and information.

Fall Drama: This year’s drama is, “The Crucible.” Meets daily in the Fine Arts Center. See posters around school for audition information. $50 activity fee (waived if free lunch; ½ price if reduced lunch); Mr. Dutcher, Advisor

One Acts: Meets Monday thru Friday and Saturday, competitions and performances may fall on Saturdays; meets from mid-November through early-February (end depends on competition advancement); watch for posters to join, probably in early November; acting is by audition; stage crew is by sign up; $50 activity fee; Mr. Sellman, Advisor

Musical: Meets every day from mid-February to end of April including some Saturdays and evenings; $50 activity fee (waived if free lunch; ½ price if reduced lunch); meets in the Fine Arts Center; participation is by audition; watch for audition posters around school. Mr. Young and Mr. Wressell, Advisors

Tech: $30 activity fee for each play (waived if free lunch; ½ price if reduced lunch); Tech Crew also works on many events apart from school theater, and there is no cost to students on Tech Crew who are not working with the plays; Mr. Julien, Advisor

The Voice: Interested in theater, performance, script-writing, directing, dancing and/or media arts? Interested in social issues, too? You can combine these interests into one cool club! This year’s focus is Words Hurt, which will address bullying, dating violence and family violence, and the power of our words when used to hurt others. You will help to develop the theme, write the script, act and perform.

Meets 3-4 days/week at 2:40 in room B250-A. Starting in Nov, will meet 4-5 days/week

Students can earn a letter for full participation

Open to all 9-12 graders. Looking for writers/directors and choreographers in Sept!

GSA: Gay Straight Alliance; Help to create a supportive environment for GLBTQ students and staff at SLPHS. Hang out together, talk about what matters to you, raise awareness and support in our school. Meets Wednesdays at 2:45 in the Student Services Office

SALSA: Student Alliance for Leadership in Social Action: Want to develop your leadership skills? “Be the change you want to see in the world.” (Mahatma Ghandi) You determine what you are passionate about and in what ways you want to be a leader.

Opportunities in Emergency Health Care (OEC) Program/Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA): Provides opportunities for students in the OEC classes to get lots of hands on experience, to build skills and serve the community.

Meets Thursdays at 2:45 in room B135 for labs/meetings. Also, many event opportunities beyond these meetings.
