    ==================================================================

    School Readiness is a Minnesota public school  program for all children ages 3-5.  Using School Readiness funding,
     District 16 offers two quality programs---
    Learn & Play Preschool
    and Preschool Partners.

      Learn & Play Preschool is the traditional preschool program where children attend classes, without a parent, to learn and have fun with their peers.   In Preschool Partners classes, a parent attends class one day a week with their child and then drops off their child to attend class, without the parent, the other day of the week.

    • The goal of School Readiness is to help preschoolers enter school with the skills and behaviors necessary to be successful in future learning.  Preschool is a place where young children can meet and interact, feel safe away from Mom and Dad, learn and have fun!
    • Licensed teachers,who have at least a four-year college degree, make learning fun through creative experiences that teach skills in math, science, literacy, social interactions and the arts.  All District 16 School Readiness classes use the Houghton-Mifflin Pre-K curriculum.  This curriculum is aligned with the district's kindergarten goals.
    • Parent involvement is a part of the School Readiness program.  Research has shown that early childhood programs where parents and children work together are more effective than programs that only focus on the child.
    • Two or three days-a-week are offered in the morning or afternoon at both Woodcrest and Northpoint.  A four-afternoons-a-week class is offered at Woodcrest.
    • Preschool classes are held at both the Early Childhood wing of Woodcrest Elementary School, 880 Osborne Road NE, Fridley, MN 55432 and at the NEW Northpoint Elementary School, 2350 124th Court, Blaine, MN 55449.  We offer a sliding fee scale based on income and family size for all School Readiness classes.
    • All School Readiness classes provide inclusion for children with special needs.
    • Children enrolled in 2008-09 classes must be 3-5 years old, as of September 1, 2008.
